AECOM Offices - Aldgate Tower

Completed in 2014, the Aldgate Tower building is one of the most high-profile office spaces in London. It offers everything you could want from a workplace – a tube station at the front door, a panoramic view of the London cityscape and over 40 cafes and restaurants within 5 minutes walk. Occupants of the building include the ride-sharing service Uber, container shipping company Maesrk and, as of 2016, multinational engineering firm AECOM.

AECOM provides design, consulting, construction and management services to thousands of clients around the world each year. In 2016, AECOM was number 156 on the Fortune 500 and in 2015 they were named as one of Fortune’s most admired companies. AECOM moved into Aldgate Tower in late 2016 and now take up six out of the available of the sixteen floors. According to AECOM, they made the move in order to accommodate for expanding business in the Greater London area, which coincided with other mergers and lease expiries. As a result, the Aldgate office is now one of three hubs in the London area with over 2,000 employees collectively.

When it came to designing the office space, AECOM used a fully internal team. This meant that they could deliver almost 8000 squared metres of office space in just an 18-week construction period. The design itself was meant to reflect AECOM’s brand promise, “Built to deliver a better world.”

When it came to lighting, many of the floors already had up-to-date LED lighting. However, AECOM engaged IBL to supply additional fittings for the new reception area, along with the several meeting rooms and the executive suite on the sixteenth floor. IBL supplied Round 80 and 90 black 13W 4K fittings, all of which are DALI controlled by a Simmtronic system. The lights reflect the simple light and dark theme of the office itself, which is in keeping with AECOM’s modern style.

AECOM states that the new office has brought greater vibrancy and engagement within the company, as well as increased collaboration between employees. The office space in Aldgate Tower is not only functional and innovative, but it also poignantly reflects the principals that AECOM promises all of their clients.
